For those of you who grew up playing the classic side-scrolling games from the Mega Man series provided by the gaming icons over at Capcom, the trailer below will speak to you on levels you never would have dreamed of. Please be prepared – a bib might be necessary.
In recent news from Capcom, who released the teaser trailer below, the next big title to come out of the Mega Man series will be Mega Man Universe. Although all of the details are extremely vague at this point as to what exactly will make Mega Man Universe so different from any other Mega Man title, the teaser trailer could be giving us some hints.
Mega Man Universe will be specifically targeted to those who were big fans of the Capcom titles from back in the late 80′s and early 90′s. This means Mega Man will not be alone and some interesting cross-over with other characters is quite evident. In an interview with GameSpot, Mega Man series creator Kenj Inafune seemed purposely vague as he explained that, “Imagination is the star of the game.”
As you can tell, Mega Man Universe is going to be about the entire repertoire of Capcom characters and how Mega Man either becomes or adsorbs their powers. The trailer shows Ryu from the Street Fighter series, Sir Arthur from Ghosts and Goblins and Cut Man from one of the original Mega Man titles. If the trailer is telling us anything, it is that we shouldn’t rule out anything when it comes to character cross-over. Another interesting aspect the trailer shows is the juxtaposition between the old 8-bit style side scroll and the new 3D animation style a lot of next gen games are pointing towards these day. Even though we don’t know much about Universe, it is safe to say that the hype has begun, especially for those of us who grew up with Capcom characters.
