3D TVs are Finally Here!

Panasonic has recently announced that they’d be selling their first ever 3D consumer TVs at the end of this month. The 42-inch Full HD 3D Plasma has a price tag of $1,699.95. When watching in 3D mode shutter glasses are required to get the desired effect. The glasses are sold separately, which is kind of annoying, but obviously a great money maker for Panasonic. Let’s just hope the price for the shades aren’t outrageous.

I was able to see 3D TVs in full effect earlier this year at CES and they’re absolutely amazing for gaming. One important question to ask before purchasing this new technology is where will you put it? 3D televisions don’t necessarily belong in a bedroom or kitchen, but rather a game or screening room. Although most American’s don’t have these luxuries, they certainly matter in the way content is viewed on 3D screens.

As impressed I am in consumer 3D technology, I’ll be excited when they release augmented reality into these games. I played with a few demos from Microsoft at CES that incorporated this technology, but I think we’re still a few years out from it. It will be interesting to see new movies in 3D on these bad boys. I can only imagine watching Avatar in all its effects.
