Alikewise.com: Dating by the Book

Last week I told you about RentAFriend.com, where you can rent your own friend for around $10 an hour. With so many websites like this popping up all over the place, and dating sites like eHarmony, Match.com and Plenty Of Fish eager to pair you up with your soul mate, I guess it only makes sense that the site I’m about to tell you about is drawing a lot of attention from book lovers.

Really when you think about it, wouldn’t you want to date someone who has the same taste in literature as you? That’s the idea behind Alikewise.com, and they’re betting on true love in the pages of a novel. Let’s say you want to find someone who has read and enjoyed the works of Stephen King, Earnest Hemingway, or Carson McCullers. You can type the authors name into the search engine, and presto! You are instantly connected with profiles of folks who have gobbled up the same books you have to see if they are a match for you.

Of course, you can input other data like your appearance, age, location, and what you’re looking for in a potential spouse, but Alikewise relies solely on the idea that book lovers will want to unite based on their love of the written word. I guess that’s kind of true, considering how many book clubs there are across the country. I just don’t know that someone liking the same books I do is enough to entice me to go out with them. That’s just me, though. You might find the woman or man of your dreams based on the two of you liking Fight Club. Who knows?

Founded by Matt Sherman and Matt Masina (I’m not making that up) in 2008, the idea came after Sherman was dumped by his girlfriend. “I wanted to meet a woman who had read The Black Swan,” he says. Well good for you, Matt.

I still don’t know how I feel about this, but it doesn’t matter. I’m not their target audience. I do like the fact that you can enter in your own comments and reviews on the books you list, so others can see you for the literary snob you truly are. On a positive note for the two Matthews – they’re sure to get a lot of revenue from publishers for advertising. They’ll need it, too, since the sire is 100% free right now. Will that change? Sherman doesn’t know.

One thing’s for sure though, if you like books, and want to find someone who has the same tastes in reading as you, Alikewise is the place for you to get hooked up with that special someone.

Note: Stay away from the chicks who have given five stars to Misery. The last thing you need is an Annie Wilkes in your life. Hack, hack, hack!
