Droid X Now Available

If you’re a Verizon customer, you’ve been wondering when the iPhone will be coming to the largest cellphone carrier in the nation.

Let me tell you this- you don’t need no stinking iPhone.

The Droid X released today and is probably the finest creation Android has ever graced.  Many are saying this new phone is the biggest competition the iPhone has received and with good reason- Droid X has a 4.3 inch 854 by 480 pixel touch screen, an 8MP camera, three microphones (two for noise cancellation), and a 1GHz processor.  PC Magazine named the phone an “editor’s pick” because of its quality.

With the Droid X as its banner, Verizon is rising to challenge Steve Jobs’ hold on the market.  According to the New York Times, “Despite the pull of the iPhone, Verizon has managed to steadily increase its share of the smartphone market, to 26 percent in May, from 20 percent in late 2008.”  In the same time period, AT&T’s shares went from 45 percent to 40 percent.

The Droid X is not perfect.  The call quality is not as clear as it is on the Incredible, with a few gain issues occurring at the highest levels of sound.  The phone is a little bulky and there seem to be a few issues viewing HD content when using the HDMI cable.  However, if you hold the phone in the crook of your hand and make a phone call, it doesn’t hang up on you so I think it wins right there.

Will Verizon ever rise past AT&T?  One can only hope.
