The PepsiCo10 Challenge Wants Your Start-Up Business

In conjunction with Highland Capital Partners and Mashable, PepsiCo is giving 10 lucky people with start-up businesses the chance of a lifetime.

The PepsiCo10 challenge is aimed at people with start-ups in media, communications, and technology, and all you have to do is convince their brand teams of your proposal. Okay, you have to do a little bit more than that, but that’s the gist of it. There are four categories you can submit in, which are broken down into: Social Media and Marketing Communications, Mobile Marketing: On the Phone and Beyond, Place-Based and Retail Experiential Marketing, and Digital Video and Gaming.

To qualify, your start-up business must need a total funding in the range of $250,000 to $10 million, and/or have annual revenues of $250,000 or more. It must also be in the very early stages of development, meaning that it can be in beta right now, or have been launched to the general public as of June 4, 2010, but not been around in the marketplace for more than two years.

Should your start-up business be one of the just 40 that are being selected for the initial round, you will have the opportunity to submit a proposal on how you will work with PepsiCo and how how their brands will be able to leverage your technology. From there they will whittle it down to 20 applicants, and those will be invited to present at the PspsiCo10 Summit at the headquarters in Purchase, New York. From there, all you have to do is convince them, and you’re in as one of the PepsiCo10.

Sounds pretty easy, right?

Should you be one of the lucky few who do win, you’ll get mentorship, support, access to key partners, and of course exposure, with some of the biggest brand names in the world. Seriously, this is awesome. The judges include managers and marketers from Pepsi-Cola, Frito-Lay, Tropicana, Quaker, and Gatorade, as well as media agencies.

With so many businesses crashing and burning within their first year of operation, this is an excellent way to at least gett the access you need to make a successful go of things. Partnering with one of the biggest, and most recognizable companies in the world will give you a huge advantage over so many people, and who knows, you just might go on to one day even overtake the ones who mentored you. Hey, it’s possible.

The deadline for submission is June 24, but if you get yours in before June 17, you’ll be invited to a briefing with PepsiCo and partners on success criteria for PepsiCo10, and an overview of key brands and issues. How awesome is that?

Good luck!
