Apple Announces 3G iPad Retail Launch Date and Time

So you want a 3G iPad right?

There was some confusion yesterday on the Apple site as to when the 3G version of the iPad would be released for retail sale on the website and in stores. Today Apple cleared the air a bit.

April 30th, 5 p.m.

Is that clear enough for you?

While yes, you can buy the 3G iPad from stores on April 30th, there’s no indication from Apple as to when you’ll be able to pick it up from other stores like Best Buy.  If you don’t live in the United States, you’ll have to wait until the end of May for the item to show in stores, but Apple will take pre-orders starting May 10th.  So far, there’s no pricing details.

Apple has sold over 500,000 copies of the Wi-Fi only version of the iPad in less than a week.  Pre-orders for both the Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + 3G version started on March 12, 2010.  When the pre-orders were made available, Apple said the 3G version would be available “late April” (according to Engadget) but had no other explanation.

I am one of the unlucky folks who has yet to purchase an iPad (where’s that tax return?!?) but I have to admit, I may be one of the many standing in line on April 30th for my unit.  I don’t need to pay rent, right?
